Song Saa, meaning ‘The Sweethearts,’ is made up of two islands linked by a footbridge over Cambodia’s first Marine Reserve – a slice of virtually untouched paradise.
Situated in the remote and unspoilt beauty of Cambodia’s Koh Rong Archipelago, Song Saa is an all-inclusive private island retreat made up of neighbouring islands, Koh Ouen and Koh Bong. The emphasis is very much on sustainability and living in harmony with the local environment with conservation programmes in place to support and protect the local communities and wildlife.
Where possible, everything has been built using reclaimed materials – timber from disused fishing boats, furniture made from driftwood washed up on the beaches and sandstone reclaimed from the villa foundations. This is complemented by locally sourced, hand-crafted furnishings and artwork.
Accommodation is in 24 luxury Over-Water, Jungle and Ocean-View thatched roof villas. All villas have linen-draped canopied king size beds, ensuite bathrooms with sunken bathtubs, outdoor showers and beautiful open-plan living spaces with writing desks, flatscreen TVs, iPod and Android docking stations, sound systems, WiFi internet and a fully-stocked mini-bars. Outside, each villa has a private pool and sundeck with daybed and poolside shower and spectacular views of the ocean and rainforest.
Song Saa has two restaurants – Vista Overwater Restaurant and Lounge which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offers contemporary Western and Cambodian cuisine; or the relaxed Driftwood Bar and Kitchen with its lunchtime menu of pizza and tapas-inspired dishes. It is also possible to arrange a romantic picnic on the beach, dinner by the pool, in-villa or another secluded setting on the island. Ingredients are seasonal and locally sourced and very much a celebration of the natural gifts of the islands.
Guests can learn more about the conservation and community work at the interactive Discovery Centre or explore the rainforest and learn about the ecosystem. A range of water sports are on offer from kayaking and snorkelling around the island to SCUBA diving and sunset cruises. And for those days when doing less is more, there is a stretch of white sand beach or the infinity pool with a large deck furnished with loungers and daybeds on which to relax in either the sun or shade.
Song Saa Sanctuaries is a series of tranquil and secluded sites dotted across the island where treatments take place in nature. Embracing the Buddhist tradition of cultivating loving-kindness, reverence and respect to all others, the spa menu is divided into three themes – stillness, healing and blessings. Oils have been chosen to help bring about balance and well-being of both body and mind and all products used are locally sourced, sustainability harvested and organic. Whether it’s a traditional Khmer massage, a chakra-clearing night spa ritual or a guided meditation or yoga class, it promises to be a deeply nurturing and transformational experience.
Song Saa Private Island offers a twice daily speedboat transfer service from Sihanoukville Port which takes 45 minutes. This service only operates during daylight hours and is by prior arrangement only. Private boat transfers from the port and a helicopter service are also available by prior arrangement.
